                <text>La scultura venne commissionata nel 1870 da Giovanni Rossi, per settemila lire, all'artista Antonio Tantardini di Milano (1829 -1879) e rappresenta “l’Industria” della tessitura nella figura di una giovane donna con una navetta nella mano destra. &#13;
Il forte simbolismo dell’opera ha il chiaro intento di celebrare l’antica arte della tessitura, evocando altre raffigurazioni classiche (Penelope, Calipso, ecc), medievali e rinascimentali di figure femminili dedite all’arte della lana. &#13;
La statua scolpita in marmo fu realizzata  per l'atrio del Villino Rossi in via Pietro Maraschin (oggi di proprietà demaniale), dove con il suo candore spiccava sulla boiserie scura. &#13;
La Tessitrice venne poi collocata per un breve periodo nel Palazzo dell'Intendenza di Finanza di Vicenza, &#13;
tornata a Schio è stata esposta al Lanificio Conte ed ora si trova nella Sala affrescata di Palazzo Fogazzaro.</text>

(Torino 1844 – Monza 1900)&#13;
Figlio di Vittorio Emanuele II, a 14 anni entrò nell’esercito, percorrendo rapidamente le tappe della carriera militare. Nel 1868 sposò la cugina Margherita, figlia di Ferdinando di Savoia. Salì al trono nel 1878. Già oggetto di un attentato nel 1878, fu ucciso a Monza dall’anarchico Gaetano Bresci il 29 luglio 1900. &#13;
&#13;
Giulio Monteverde (1837 - 1917). Dapprima ebanista, frequentò poi l'Accademia ligustica di Genova, e si perfezionò a Roma. Il suo stile, veristico, rimase nella tradizione accademica. Eseguì gran numero di monumenti commemorativi  il suo gruppo più celebre è Jenner che sperimenta la vaccinazione&#13;
I dodici busti marmorei qui esposti erano collocati nell’androne-corridoio dell’asilo “Rossi”, secondo un programma espositivo caro ai princìpi di Alessandro Rossi, che identifica i modelli morali da seguire per i bambini ospitati nell’asilo: al centro la famiglia reale dei Savoia, a destra gli educatori e i rappresentanti della Chiesa, a sinistra i padri fondatori dell’Unità d’Italia. Alcune opere furono commissionate dai discendenti di Alessandro Rossi.&#13;
Sottoposti a restauro negli anni scorsi, i busti furono trasferiti dall’asilo e non vi hanno fatto finora ritorno, a causa dell’incendio che colpì l’edificio la notte del 2 febbraio 2009. Tutti i busti sono realizzati in marmo di Carrara.</text>
